Week 31 - Only 9 weeks to go

I'm down to single digit weeks left until my due date. Yea!!!

This week, Sam measures over 16 inches long. He weighs about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. He's definitely moving a lot, too, but I have not had too much trouble sleeping because Sam's kicks and somersaults haven't kept me up.

Weekly Bump Picture- I have really popped.
31 Week Bump

We are so close to finishing the nursery. We purchased a rocker on Sunday and it looks great. We need to put the refinished dresser back into the room, hang a painting, a mobile and Sam's name on the wall. Other than that, the room is finished. I'll take a picture on Sunday night after the Steelers win the Super Bowl.

The closet is another story. We are still making shelves in there, but we should be done with that by the 7th. Everything will be picture perfect before the baby shower on the 21st.

Week 30- 10 weeks to go

Sam has now grown to be about 15.15 inches long and weighs about 3 pounds which is about the size of a green cabbage.

Sam's eyes are becoming more mature, and now he can tell the difference between light and dark. Babies at 30 weeks can even follow a light source with his/her eyes.

Sam is very aware of the surroundings. We tend to think of the uterus as a dark place, but it can be light and dark depending on the mother's environment. I have been able to distinguish sleep and wake cycles in Sam. Although it usually seems as if Sam wants to sleep while I'm awake and vice versa at night.

Week 29

Here is Sam's crib complete with sheets and everything. Of course, while he is in the crib, the bumper and blanket will be removed. We should be able to have the entire room ready within 2 weeks.

Here is my weekly "bump" picture. It doesn't look like much has changed, but I think that I'm rounding out more.

Sam is as big as a butternut squash, weightwise -- about 2 1/2 pounds. (Length: a tad over 15 inches, head to heel.)

Sam is rapidly growing at this point. Obviously Sam is continuing to gain weight, and his head is also growing. This is due to the rapid brain development that began in week 28. Muscles and lungs are also continuing to develop and mature.

Happy birthday to Andrea, Brian's Mom.

Here is my weekly bump picture. Isn't it cute?!?

Brian finally got to feel Sam kick last night. He was so excited. I almost cried.

Today we are going to the Mountain Midwifery Center for my 1st appointment of my 3rd trimester. For a while, I think that the appointments are going to be scheduled every other week. I'm going to ask about scheduling the birthing class which includes nursing and newborn care.

Currently Sam is the size of a head of Chinese Cabbage.
