10 Minute Pantry Organization

Since we got our new kitchen cabinets, with a lazy Susan, I have neglected cleaning out and organizing the pantry. I decided to take 10 minutes to go through and organize the middle 3 shelves that we encounter in a typical week.

It's also on my 101 Things in 1,001 Days Project list to organize the pantry quarterly.

After:

It's a big improvement, but there is definitely more that can be done to make it look better.
Here are some cool ideas that I've found.

My 101 Things- July 2012 Update

I can't believe how July stacked up against my 101 Things list.

See for yourself.

Friday Night with Friends

We had Grandma and Grandpa watch Samuel so that we could go out with friends in Louisville and see the Smithereens in concert. Obviously, it wasn't a very large venue, but it was a nice show.

Before they started playing their few popular songs, we headed over a few blacks and had BBQ. Really good BBQ.

After the main concert, we walked over to an area where a band was sent up and, for being so young, they were pretty good.

I hope that we sent another night like this with our friends.

Today, I'm Committed to Helping a Worthy Cause

Today, I signed all of the paper work to fund raise and train with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training program to complete the Canyonlands Half Marathon on March 19, 2011 on my way to complete my first full marathon Colfax Marathon in May 2011.

During my training, my goals are to:
  1. Increase my pace.
  2. Continue to lose weight and get to my goal weight by the half marathon.
  3. Raise $2,500 to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
  4. Have fun and continue to make regular fitness a permanent part of my life.
  5. Make new friends.

Correction- Priceless

I accidently notied that I only progressed with one of my "Visit 10 State/National Parks or Forests I have never been to." Looking back, I have completed 4 of the 10.

1. Great Falls, VA
2. Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial
3. World War II Memorial
4. Ford's Theatre

Also, I did not corretly list the amount of museums that I have been to. That number is 4 instead of 3.
1. Forney Museum of Transportation‎
2. Children's Museum of Denver‎
3. Littleton Museum‎
4. Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center

Knocking Off 3 Items During 1 Trip?- Priceless

I took the time to update my 101 Things in 1,001 Days.

I was able to complete 3 items on my list during a single trip last week.

84. Take Sam to the ocean, any ocean
85. Take Brian and Sam to Washington DC
94. Take a trip to Philadelphia to see sister

I was also able to progress on five of my items.

96. Visit 10 State Parks or Forests I have never been to (1/10)). We went to Great Falls National Park in VA.
27. Visit 10 museums (3/10). We visited the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia which is part of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. I'm not sure if any of the monuments are considered museums. I'll have to double check and update my listing.
46. Go out with friends 10 times (6/10). We stayed with cousins and went out to dinner. We had such a blast the entire week.
60. Begin a 3x/week workout program and continue it for at least 3 months. I'm currently down 17 lbs.
62. Figure out which charity race I’m going to do and sign up for it/ complete it. 2010 AIDS Walk 5K

I took too many pictures to show them all. I will go through them and post the best ones soon.

Forney Museum of Transportation

We visited the Forney Museum today. It is located on Brighton Blvd. right next to the Denver Coliseum. This is the 3rd of the 10 that I am committed to visiting during my "101 Things in 1,001 Days" project.

The Forney Transportation Museum is a one-of-a-kind collection of over 500 exhibits relating to historical transportation. It began with antique cars, but soon expanded to include vehicles of all kinds. Some of these are familiar, while others spark the imagination.

The largest item in the museum is the Big Boy Locomotive, the most successful articulated steam locomotive ever built.

I wasn’t sure what I expected when we entered the door, but it was not as interesting as I had hoped for being a museum of transportation items. This museum is not as well-funded as it should be to draw in more patrons. I guess that I expected a few interactive displays and information about the items that are more sturdy than a music stand type display. It looks like they display everything that they could possibly display and overload them. What might bring people back is to have a rotating display of the items and/or make deals with other museums to loan vehicles between them.

I’d like to see what this museum could do with a higher fundraising effort.

Because Sam is too young to really appreciate the items now, we will bring him back when he is older, but there is no reason to do it often.

I posted a picture of Sam in one of the vehicles on his blog.

101 Things in 1,001 Days Update- Jan 2010

Sam has been sick with Herpangina, so I was home for 2 days this week (Tuesday and yesterday), so I thought that I would try to watch one of the AFI Top Movies that I haven’t seen before since that is on my list.

I picked Giant since I like James Dean’s other movies and it was up for 10 Academy Awards. What a mistake. I could only get through half of it. I was bored stiff. This was the 2nd time that I had tried to watch it. I’m not going to try again. I’m counting it as completed.

Here is my blog about the process of completing my list.
