Brian's Birthday Bash and CPR and First Aid Class Results

We were unable to celebrate Brian's 40th birthday during it's original weekend because of my mother's heath issues, so we decided to reschedule it for the weekend of October 21st.


We had it set up that Sam would spend that Friday and Saturday nights with Brian's parents and we would celebrate Brian's birthday on Friday and attend the CPR and First Aid Class on Saturday morning.


I don't think that I thought it out very well, because going to a Red Cross class hung over wasn't my idea of fun.


We had postponed the class once before (August), but committed to completing it this year.  HERE is the reason that we attended the class.


I told Brian that he should stay downtown after work and I would just meet him down there. Unbeknownst to him, I had reserved a room downtown at The Magnolia Hotel so that we wouldn't have to worry about getting home and access to our vehicles after going out.


After work, I went home and packed a few things for both of us and headed downtown. We met at the hotel and checked in. He was definitely surprised.


After having a wonderful dinner at The Denver Chophouse, we headed downstairs to Sing Sing, a dueling piano bar, to complete the celebration. Brian begged me not to make him go onstage for their adult comedy roasts, so I obliged.


Near the end of the night, a woman was brought onstage celebrating her 60th birthday. The entertainers asked that all of the men in the audience come to the front of the stage and serenade the woman. I caught most of it on video (in 3 parts).










We had a blast!
We got back to the hotel safely and went to sleep very quickly (aka-passed out).

We woke up around 7:30 and by 8am, we were on the road to pick up Brian car to attend the CPR and First Aid class.

We received a lot of good information and learned a lot, but I had a splitting headache and was dehydrated from the night before. The mannequins that we used were a one-use item (even though we used a face shield). After their use, we were asked to pull off their face and put the face in a box and the body leaning against a wall. We were asked to do the same thing when we completed the infant portion of the class.

We relaxed the rest of the day and Sam was dropped off by my ILs the next morning. When Sam saw me at the front door he hugged me so tight that I could barely breath. After about a minute, he pulled back and looked at me, the proceeded to give me another big hug. This happened a couple of more times.

Very sweet. I missed you too, little boy.

Thank you so much Andrea and Jay for taking such great care of our little boy. We might have to ask the same thing from you on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day since we have tickets to the Bronco's game, but we can talk about it more as the end of the year approaches.

One Year Ago

Around this time last year, Sam had to be admitted to The Children's Hospital at Parker Adventist (FULL STORY).


I was looking on Brian's phone and found some more pictures and a video from that weekend. These are definitely the silly portion of our stay.

Day at the Museum

The first Saturday of every month, the Denver Art Museum has free entry for CO residents. We didn't have anything else planned, so Sam and I took the light rail downtown, met Brian (he was working in the morning) and headed over there.

The China portion of the Denver Art Museum was definitely our favorite. Sam had fun building Build the Great Wall of China with large-scale fabric blocks and coloring a dragon hand puppet with Daddy.

Unfortunately, two little girls were hogging all of the other blocks, so Sam only had 6-7 to play with, but he didn't seem to mind.

There was also a section of the museum where you could make a Chinese dragon mask to take home and wear. Unfortunately, Daddy was more interested in that, while Sam climbed on a turtle in the same area and wanted me to climb on it, too.

The only bad thing about The Denver Art Museum is that it doesn't open until 10am on Saturdays. With Sam's lunchtime around 11:30 (and a nap afterwards), that doesn't leave much time to play before he gets hungry and cranky.

Sam should stop taking naps when he hits 3, so when we go after that, we can always come back after lunch and play some more.

New Toilet Seat

I found this toilet seat cover on Amazon about a month ago and finally installed it last night. A full size toilet seat with an attached potty seat for Sam.

Halloween Weekend

This past weekend, The Children's Museum of Denver hosted their annual Trick or Treat Street. This is something that we have gone to since Sam was born.

My mother made his costume for the last 2 years, but it was getting tight on him so I decided to make him something new. Actually, I decided to make costumes for all of us.

There were a few cute family costume ideas that I found, but they were mostly for families with 4 people. I didn't want people to wonder where the 4th person was, so I decided that we would be superheroes.

I thought that the hardest part would be finding a pattern for a cape, but "Thank You Pinterest!!!" I found THIS cape tutorial, using an old t shirt, and decided that my limited sewing skills might be able to accomplish this task. I cut the capes out of shirts that I purchased from the local thrift store in about half an hour (making sure to not cut off the seams).


I purchased some foam sheets and found designs to be hand sewn on the front of our shirts. Using the design, I traced the design onto the foam and hand sewed it onto each of our shirts. Hindsight being 20/20, I probably should have just used felt with a sewing machine, but now I know better for future years. Anything that can be destroyed, will.

When we showed up at Trick or Treat Street, Brian felt a little silly since we were the only parents that we saw with costumers, but there ended up being about 5 set of parents that didn't want to let their children have all the fun and dressed up as well.  We received quite a few complements, even though they weren't very intricate.

Another reason to sew everything on- Sam decided that during lunch, he didn't want to be Superman anymore. He ripped through part of the foam and tore out the hand-stitching. At least it was able to be repaired for today at daycare and this evening for Trick or Treat in the neighborhood.

At lunch, Sam's Grandma and Daddy were drinking coffee and Sam wanted some too. Of course, it was empty.

We Love It!!

During our purchase of this set last weekend, we were told that we would need to call to get our 2.5 hour delivery window after 1pm yesterday. We were hoping that our appointment window would be early in the morning, so we were definitely upset when we were given the window of 11:45 am - 2:15pm.


Of course, things turned in our favor when we received a call this morning around 9:30 stating that the delivery drivers will be at our house after their next stop. We were thrilled.
